About

My name is Robert A. Richard (Bob).

I enjoy doing a variety of work. From small runs of architectural millwork to mantles, wainscoating, entertainment centers and highly detailed reproduction furniture, all periods and styles.

All commissions are treated equally; materials are hand-picked, traditional joinery is utilized and finishes are brought to the highest level.

Background

Shortly after completing a degree in Nutrition at the University of Massachusetts I had the opportunity to work with a skilled carpenter for a local builder. This brief exposure kindled a passion for building and set me on a course to develop my skills in that pursuit. Working on a small crew I learned carpentry from the foundation to the roof. With a desire to be out on my own I obtained my builders license and successfully executed projects ranging from finish work to building homes, including building my own home. While the project management and execution was challenging I enjoyed working with my clients to understand their needs and helping them turn them into reality. Personally I learned I had an affinity for finish carpentry and realized I truly enjoyed working with my hands.

An article on the North Bennett Street School's Cabinet and Furniture program (NBSS) caught my attention. After touring the facility and seeing the quality and level of the student's work, a new career path opened before my eyes. While waiting for my 1995 start date at NBSS I took an introductory two week course in Rockport, Maine at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship. This along with a full two years at NBSS was an intense learning experience, which built a framework of confidence in my own abilities.

Shortly after graduating I built my own shop and have produced numerous works while continuing to hone my skills. Some of the works can be seen here. I continue to do all forms of woodworking, furniture, cabinetry, mill work, turning and carving and occasionally, I will still build and remodel for the discriminating customer who knows I will focus all my attention on the details of their projects.

Let's discuss how I can help you enhance the beauty of your home.
